“A lot of people feel really helpless when it comes to climate change…What our research is showing is that your personal decisions really can have a big impact.”

I try my damnedest to be environmentally conscious in my everyday actions – but honestly, most of the time I don’t know how to be. Thankfully I’ve just discovered a series of bite-sized 8-10 minute videos from University of California that’s basically Cliff’s Notes to environmental consciousness.

Narrated by conservation scientist M. Sanjayan, each video shares entertaining and actionable nuggets on how to individually tackle climate change.

I haven’t watched all of the videos yet, but here are some of my favorite takeaways from Episode 8: The diet that helps fight climate change:

  • Livestock accounts for 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions (equivalent to transportation’s footprint – cars, trains, planes, etc.)
  • Eliminating 90% of your meat intake is more important than eliminating 100%.
  • If everyone switched to a Mediterranean diet (mostly vegetables, fish, chicken), we could eliminate 15% of global warming pollution.
